About Gershwiniana

The piano duo has played a very important role in the history of music and in the social context of the Nineteenth and Twentieth Centuries, in which many transcriptions for this staff succeded in broadcasting symphonic and operatic music.

Ilio Barontini has chosen eight Gershwin songs, elaborating a piano four hands version to valorize the Author's compositive project: elevating jazz at the level of cultivated music.

This work realizes a polyphonic, rhythmic and harmonic amplification of the music material of these songs, hoarding the linguistic innovations of the 20th century and rendering the breath of music up.

Ilio Barontini is considered a countercurrent pianist for his frequent choice of monographic concert programmes and for his creation of piano versions aiming to make short circuits between different musical languages. He has recorded for Sifare Classical several albums for solo piano (ParthenoPiano, Back to Beatles, Experience, Life Is Love, Musings, Renaissance, Mozart: Fantasias, Platti: Keyboard Sonatas) and also many works for piano duo with his daughter Caterina Barontini (Back to Beat, Bartókiana, Five Nursery Rhymes, Little Suite & Gershwiniana).
