Five Nursery Rhymes [Digital Sheet Music]

Five Nursery Rhymes is a suite for piano four hands by Ilio Barontini.

Ilio Barontini, pianist, teacher and composer, has chosen five Tuscan nursery rhymes to make an original piano four hands version. Not just a transcription actually. In fact the Author has combined immediacy with a refined harmonic research, creating a unique blend of folk and cultured music. A project that aims to highlight the values of folk heritage and to give young pianists a chance to experience a new and ancient musical expression at the same time. 

"Through the centuries, the relationship between folk and cultured music has always been characterized by constant exchanges and reciprocal influences. The two worlds have never been separated, but the one feeds the other. I think that young musicians need to experience this relationship since the early years of their education. 
Therefore, I have chosen five nursery rhymes belonging to the Tuscan folk tradition and I have worked on them in order to create a piano four hands version, trying to achieve a sort of balance and a synthesis between cultured and folk.
The order of these pieces follows a principle of agogic alternation. I hope that this work can raise students' interest towards folk heritages and prompt them to cultivate the practice of piano duo and chamber music in general, an important part of musical education."
